   The city of Timisoara , situated in a strategic position in Central Europe , has gathered within its boundaries a population that counts over 350,000 people today.    Out of them, over 200,000 people are Romanians. Many Romanians, now residents of Timisoara , come from various areas of Romania . In the last century, and before that, the people came to the area being attracted by the mild climate, fertile soil and the abundance of waters and woods. The industrial area of Timisoara , that blossomed mainly in the XX century, was also a powerful attraction for many workers from the country. In the communist time Timisoara was a prosperous city of culture and industry alike. Unfortunately, following the fall of communism, economic situation, stable somehow, started to decline and many workers, especially the older ones, became unemployed because many factories were closed.

    Losing the jobs, as well as the weakening of economic situation, in general, contributed more to the uncertainty of tomorrow. What is left stable in a world with such a turmoil? That was the moment when one can seriously question about his earthly existence. And it is in that point that the good news of salvation from the bondage of sin and death through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, could find its best audience.

     As to the openness to the Gospel, Timisoara is one of the few cities in Romania where 10% of the population claims to be Christian. Nevertheless, the number of divorce has tripled in the last decades, the abortion rates are alarming; criminality and corruption are in blossom. Starting a family on Christian basis is ever rare. Losing the Christian values means losing Christian faith that leads to moral decline and finally to the fall of a nation.

In the middle of a residential district of concrete and glass, about five years ago a chapel of tin and wood sprang up because several brethren with vision and mission-minded were ready to extend the Kingdom by “planting” an spiritual oasis in an area of the city where there are no evangelical churches. That self-conscious group of ten people, in the beginning, by God’s blessing, who made it grow, numbers now about 100 people determined to follow Jesus Christ. Their total trust is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, because they tested His power and goodness He protected them with. They drank the real water from the spiritual Rock, and “the Rock was Christ” (1 Corintinas 10:1-4). That is why they decided to start the “Rock” Church, that is the Church whose Head is the Christ!

The “Rock” Church is a small flock, but with a great God! In that partnership, the accent is on our great God, the most important part!

Currently we meet in an improvised chapel with wall made of wood and tin. The chapel has 111 seats that are occupied almost all of them every worship service and Bible study. Praised the Lord! Through the Holy Spirit, we declare we are a growing community!
